Windows 10 Fix Problems
First off let me thank you all for this forum, it is excellent.
Short History: I recently had to replace my mobo, and since the old one was discontinued I had to upgrade. That process rendered my raid drives incompatible so I am basically starting from scratch with a whole new system. And so I also took the opportunity to upgrade from Win XP 64 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64.
Now I am going through the agonizing process of reinstalling all of my games and apps.
I have re-downloaded Civ 4 from my Direct-2-Drive account and ran the installer, no problems there. I then encountered problems with it not locating the msvcr71.dll and msvcp71.dll files.
I downloaded and purchased the registry booster 2010 software recommended by this site and it corrected those problems. (I dont mess with the registry myself, ever)
now when I try to launch the game i get the 'application failed to start error: 0xc000007b' message.
I realize this indicates a hardware or driver conflict but I am not sure what, if anything, I can do about it.
After installing the new version of Win7 I made sure I updated my NVidia drivers, and my audio drivers before doing anything else. So I am sure that all my drivers are up to date, and my system is new and free of errors. I also downloaded and installed DirectX from the microsoft website, so I am certain that is up to date as well.
My question is: Is there any way to fix this problem? Civ 4 is one of my favorite games and I am saddened that it refuses to open.
I have successfully downloaded and installed a couple other games from D2D and they worked fine.
I looked through all the other 7b error posts and Civ 4 posts without finding any solutions, so Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.
My system specs: AMD 64 FX62 proc, 4Gb ram, Nvidia 8800 GTX video, and using the onboard audio of my M3N-HT deluxe mobo.
